Marketing Warfare

I just finished a classic marketing book by Al Ries Jack Trout. The title is Marketing Warfare. The essence of the book is to enable us to know that to achieve success in all aspect of an organization, marketing people have a lot to learn from some of the world's greatest battles.

Marketing is war. To be relevant in today's market, you have to prepare for war. 'The true nature of marketing today is not serving the customer; it is outwitting , outflanking, outfighting the competition and the customer is the ground to be won'.

Actually, some of the language of marketing was borrowed from the military. We say we are  launching a marketing campaign. Therefore, marketers do not only need to talk like a general but they need to think and plan like general.

Success  in any endeavor today requires a sound marketing tactics. Politicians, professionals and the like are fast becoming super marketers towards their objectives.

Likewise to record a success on-line, one should remember the most common message that 95% of the people  do not succeed and only 5% do make money on line. You have to think and act like a general. Avoid information overload, remain focused, imbibe the spirit of self-determination to succeed, have courage and endurance among several other traits.

If you are new to internet marketing, you will be bombarded with several programmes  offering easy solution to on-line success. Most of the time, this do not work. Success on line is a serious business like any other offline business and it must be treated so.

Remember that today's marketing is really war. It is, and it will continue to be.

MY GRANDMOTHER- Entrepreneour Per Excellence.

Hello friends, do you know that I grew up with my grandmother between age five to sixteen? Yes , that is the truth. It was the most wonderful years of my young life. I loved my granny and she was the best grandmother one could dream of. She slept in the Lord August, 2000. May she continue to rest in the bossom of the Lord. I have many lessons to share from my grandmother's life, but that will be enough for a book in the future.

What I want to express today about my grandmother is a virtue that she had and I never gave her the credit until after her demise. She was an unknown academician, though, she never entered the walls of a University but she had the wisdom of a Professor.A short story of an event will make this more explicit:

When I finished my Teacher's Grade 11 College in 1985, automatic employment was no more possible with the government. In fact, there was no teaching job for my colleagues until late 1987.

My grandmother called me one day and advised me to go and establish the type of my uncle's vocation. My uncle is a concrete block maker. He had a block making industry. I told the granny that she should wish me well for better thing not to be a block maker; after all, my uncle did not go to school well and we that are educated should get office job and grow our career to become top executives in companies or government ministries or parastatals.

She never stopped telling me that what you do for yourself is better than serving somebody. I did not learn her entrepreneurial wisdom she was trying to impact on me until fifteen years later.   I needed less than N1200 (about $594 then) for the establishment of the mini block industry then. Take note of  the value of N1200 in 1986 and see how bad our currency today had plummeted

What then happened fifteen years later? My eyes were opened. This time not by my grandmother, but by my University Professor. I was in my MBA class in year 2001. The course is Entrepreneur Development. My Prof. told us how it is dangerous and suicidal in today's Nigeria to live as salary earners and be waiting for retirement after thirty five years.

He delved into various indicators and research findings that had been carried out in the past, like mortality rate among Nigerians, , failed businesses, old age efforts to start being an entrepreneur, and other reasons why it is difficult to start thinking of new business at around age sixty and above. Apology to our senior citizens. with due respect; but we are living witnesses to most of our senior citizens that collapse and die while queuing for their pensions.

It then dawned on me that my grandmother was  an unrecognized Professor. She was called to rest just eleven months before at the ripe age of one hundred and twenty years.

I remembered my Professor of Entrepreneurial Development. I remember my good grandmother , the unsung Prof., the Entrepreneur Per Excellence.

Who says only the academicians are the learned? Ask Henry Ford.

Please leave your comments to this post.  catch you all tomorrow.

My Pastor's Sunday Sermon-''Lucky People''

During the church service yesterday, the topic of my pastor's sermon was Lucky People.
He deliberated on the word- Luck. He then itemised different types of luck.
a:                Hard-luck
b:                Ill-luck
c:                Badluck
d:                GOODLUCK

All of the above has one element of luck or the other, however, their meanings are different. Everybody will desire goodluck than any other types of luck. In fact, nobody will wish himself or herself badluck any time.

What then is in a name? Ask a Yoruba man in Nigeria. He will tell you that names have much to do and say  with the future of a child. Other ethnic nationalities in Nigeria too are aware of the importance attached to a name.

Even in the Holy Bible, one will notice that God changed Abram name to Abraham and changed Sarai to Sarah. It has its significance. In addition, Jacob was renamed Israel and till date the nation of Israel is one of the wonderful countries  of the world.

It is the current phenomenon in Nigeria today that the present President Goodluck Jonathan must have benefitted kindly from the mystery -divinely- endowed name  of Goodluck for him to have risen to the highest position in the land without campaigning for electoral position until now.

Who says names has no meaning?

BEAUTIFUL DAUGHTER OF HERODIAS. (Matthew:14 Vs 1-12)

Since time immemorial, lots of strange human behaviors had been existing. In fact, the wise saying that says 'there is nothing new under the sun' proves the efficacy of this message.

The rich and the powerful had always been using their position and influence to commit various atrocities under the sun. If you doubt, check your bible. One of them is Herod the Tetrarch.

I wrote this poem to reflect on the above bible passage as one of my unpublished works on 10th July 1988. It is a bit long but simple and flowery enough to follow up to its conclusion. It is titled: Beautiful Daughter of Herodias. Enjoy yourself. Please note that your comments are welcomed. I will appreciate if you leave your comments.

BEAUTIFUL DAUGHTER OF HERODIAS.

Come and see treachery outside,
Beautiful daughter of Herodias.
Come out and see what is shameful
Beautiful daughter of Herodias.
Come out and see what is disgusting
Beautiful daughter of Herodias.

Her mother was treacherous,
Her mother Herodias was a bunch of shame
Her mother Herodias was heartless,
Yet, she loved her treacherous mother,
Yet, she adored her shameless mother,
Yet, she worship her hertless mother.

Beautiful daughter of Herodias,
She was used as an agent of treachery
She was used as an agent o heartlessness,
She was used as an agent of  shame,
The mother-'Jezebelous ' in nature
The daughter-'Dellilary' in spirit.

Herodias, full of inordinate ambitions,
Wanted to be queen at all cost
Being heartless and ungodly,
Jilted her morning husband;
Raced to the waiting hand of the king,
Together with her rebellous daughter,
and to fulfill her inestimable desires.

The preacher of the truth,
Who preaches only the truth
Who fears no man or foe,
Condemned the ungodly act of the king,
Of his actions how unlawful;
Before the eyes of man and God.

The King was furious for the plain truth
''Dare you condemn a king like that ''?
''Send him to the prison dungeon on my order''.
The 'Jezebelous' queen-Herodias
Seing her security threatened so,
Started to plan her blackish ambush.

Beautiful daughter of Herodias,
Now the time of the feast is come.
Look at the king in the royal robe!!
Magnificent to behold!
See the flamboyant queen at the King's side!
The time is near to unleash her terror.

'Who is this dancer?come and see.
Her legs seem built with the drums,
The viberations of the beat so accurate!
Have we a dancer like this in my dominion?
Let me see her face for real,
I shall make my most fulfill-able promise'.

'So it was you my Queen daughter!
Ask for ANYTHING even up to half of my kingdom,
And it shall be fulfilled for you now
That everything is at its best.
Ask! Ask!and Ask before me now,
I will sanction your request
With immediate effect
And seal it with my Zeal'.

Beautiful daughter of Herodias,
With the connivance of her mother demands....
''O King! Give me HERE and NOW-
THE HEAD OF JOHN THE BAPTIST''.

The King was thoughtful.........
'This is a great demand
That I least wish
But because of my promise
And because of  of my guests,
I shall heed to your request,
And grant your wish'

''Royal guards take thy swords....
And bring to me here and now,
The head of John''...

......................................................
''Sweet Mother......this is the head you want''.

.....................................................................
Heavenly judge shall judge
The treachery of Herodias
The Lust of King Herod the Tetrarch,
And the heartlessness of the daughter of Herodias.

BREAKING OF THE KOLANUT

Hello and welcome to my blog again. Thank you for your visit. I hope to make your time as worthwhile as possible on this site.

Today, I will like to say something about an important product we cherish so much in Nigeria- KOLANUT.
It is so important that all two hundred and fifty ethnic groups in Nigeria and the three dominant ethnic groups(Yoruba, Igbo and Hausa) have close affinity to this farm product- Kolanut.

I attended a wedding recently in the Eastern part of Nigeria and I observed how this product is respected in their customs; trust me, before I knew what was happening, some lines came into my head and find below, a  short poem on Kolanut.

BREAKING OF THE KOLANUT

Very important, very significant
Verily and seriously respected in the East,
The breaking of the Kola.

KOLANUT
Produced in the WEST,
Respected in the EAST,
Consumed in the NORTH.

This seed is serious,
Seriously significant,
Eminently enriched
Especially in the East.

This Kola,.............
Not this kolanut in my father's farm?
I will give you more respect,
When I find you again in the WEST.

SUCCESS

I will like to share a thought today on an important topic- Success. Everybody desire success. However, success has a price. Enduring success has a real price tag.

Let me share one of my youthful poems written over two decades ago-precisely 1988 that has success as its title. It was a wonderful way my young heart expresses its feelings.

SUCCESS

My God should wish me success,
And I wish myself success.
If God wishes me and I do not wish myself
Of what essence is the success wish?

The hard time awaits the strugglers
But they shall reap the fruits of their endeavours.
Stagnant planner goes nowhere,
Than to make millions on inactive thoughts.

If I need success I shouldn't detest initiative
I need to see, say, act and propel,
I shouldn't make a mountain out of a mole hill,
Planning for success makes the best feel.

Success is not meant for the lazy,
Except dubious success that explodes
with the tide of time.
And leave the victim a victim of dubious achievements.

If you hear big names countrywide,
That had achieved success countable,
Ask them and hear more stories,
History of a disciplined and determined mind.

Success is a glory of Godliness,
Godliness is a glory of positive achievments,
Positive achievement is a glory of hardwork,
Hard work is the glory of a determined heart.

Tell me more about success,
I shall start the ignition of my own.

The Hard Nut of Life

Welcome to my blog.

You will find issues and contents that are amusing, entertaining, educating and interesting on this blog. One of my hobbies is to express myself in poetic forms. I love poetry. Poets are like philosophers. In fact, they are. Through the poets golden lines, at times it peeps into the future and such poems become golden prophecy of the renowned sages.

Enjoy below one of my old poems. Actually, I wrote it on September 21st, 1987. It was titled 'The Hard Nut of Life'. When i was in the jungle, things were tough, tight, and the future looked bleak. Amidst the uncertainties lies a ray of hope, and a light amidst the darkness of life. When things look as if there is no hope for you, just relax. You have a purpose in life. You are created for a purpose and if you remain focused, determined, hopeful, courageous and unrelenting, your breakthrough is just around the corner.

THE HARD NUT OF LIFE

The hard nut,
Uneasy to crack;
But with forceful force,
Jack aside like Jackal,
Sweeteens the resultant effect.

The teeming millions,
Pitying the hard nut cracker
For physical exertion over the seeds,
Why need so much labour?
For life after had metamorphorsed.

The scanty well-to-do,
Pitying the hard nut cracker
For physical exertion over the seed,
And the wastage of unused brain,
For life after his ambition had metamorphorsed.

The hard nut cracker,
Thanking his star for everything,
For both the odds and the evens;
For he had learnt some practical lessons,
Of life's vissisitudes.

The approaching tomorrow;
Beckoning him to approach,
Beckoning with smiles and confidence,
Of  positivity in nature;
For the combined pity of the teeming
Millions and the scanty well-to-do.
